KOCHI:
Kochi city police has registered a case against the management committee of Peace Educational Foundation for allegedly disrupting communal harmony. The case relates to highly objectionable content in the syllabus of the schools run by the foundation, which is funded by three prominent business houses based in central Kerala who are already under police scrutiny related to the IS missing youths' case.
Kochi range IG S Sreejith confirmed that the case has been registered against the management committee of the educational foundation under section 153 (A) of IPC (for promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony). Highly-placed police sources revealed that the educational department had examined the syllabi of the schools run by the foundation and submitted a report to the police. A case was registered based on the report.
The management committee is represented by the three prominent business houses and the police had recently quizzed the three businessmen from these firms. Earlier, name of the three business houses had cropped up during the interrogation of Rizvan Khan of Mumbai, who was arrested by Kochi police for the alleged radicalisation bid on Abin Jacob Khan had told police that the three business houses were funding the educational foundation.
Following this, the police had been closely monitoring the business houses. The police had also found that the 20-odd Keralites who had gone missing and are suspected to have joined IS, were associated with the educational foundation. Some of them had also worked as faculty with the foundation's schools.
The police had also inspected Peace International School in Ernakulam after they found that Abin's sister Merin, one of the 20-odd youths missing, had taken classes at the school.
