         Respected family members of this great holy Nation.

Sub : DMK OR AIADMK :- Which is better  or A THIRD NEW EXPERIMENT ?

DMK is/has a more federal structures with Ministers having some subject knowledge/independence. AIDMK is more Central authority and grass-roots ministers (resulting in less Ministerial authority vis-a-vis officials).

DMK -  Family or dynastic rule, highly involved in many scams, not honest ......

Jayalalithaa is regarded as better administrator, however understood and  personally feel this time she is not well enough to keep a iron leash like 2001-06. So administration has suffered in the hands of people surrounding her.

Moreover she was self centered, A dictator,  away from pubic, lonely, high secrecy in personal life, no transparency........

Karunanidhi is brilliant as a planner, but is compromising by nature. With aging, he is not willing to reign in family resulting in multitude of power-centers.

The answer for the description to the question:

DMK came to power on the height of Anti-Hindi sentiments prevailing in TN (at that time Madras State). With serious infighting in Congress (Rajaji was against Kamaraj), DMK won in a coalition. Once in power they gained strength on the basis of "Identity politics" and much publicized Welfare schemes (1 Padi rice for 1 Rs).

Congress on the other-hand was being slowly decimated across the country due to highly centralized function of Indira Gandhi. So its a case of ad/glamour blitz overcoming disjointed campaign by others. In fact both parties (DMK & AIDMK) have never contested a state election without being in alliance with one/another faction of Congress!!!

Some good schemes(corrupt or otherwise) they did do/push are:

BUT THESE PROGRAMMS LEAD TO CORRUPTION .....

1. All Women Police stations - TN is pioneer in Women empowerment
2. Nutrious meal scheme (note: Mid-day meals were introduced by Kamraj Govt)
3. Infrastructure development in Chennai, other towns
4. Setting up of TIDEL park and IT parks with OMR
5. Automobile companies around Sriperumbudur
6. Tamil cultural symbols around the state.
7. Self-financing colleges (Engineering, Medical) across the state - While people running them are from political background, long run government cannot be the only provider of higher education.

My view

1. BOTH DMK AND AIADMK are corruptible, one person or family centered, both not good for the future,

2. Avoid cinema background in Politics,

3. Karunanithi and family are worst in corruption followed by party members,

4. Jayalalitha is self centered, more or less a dictator, but her last term was worst because of her relation with Sasikala and surroundings

5. Jayalalitha is equally corruptive, with association of Sasikala.
