As Opposition and senior journalists continue to attack government for imposing a one-day ban on NDTV for its Pathankot attack coverage, Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday argued that media should avoid sensationalism and suggested that terrorism, extremism and anti-social activities should not be highlighted ‘as if they are heroic acts’.
In a series of tweets, Naidu expressed his views on the role of media and its responsibility and how the credibility of a news item is of vital importance. “Media should avoid sensationalism as well as obscenity, vulgarity, violence should be reduced..while terrorism, extremism and anti-social activities should not be highlighted in Media as if they are heroic acts. Information with confirmation is great ammunition and credibility is very important,” Naidu tweeted.

The minister also suggested that news should be separate from views and said that combining the both creates distortion. “News should be news, views should be separate. Of late…this tendency has erupted, which is creating distortion, of combining news and views,” tweeted Naidu adding.
Talking about the strength of social media, Naidu said it is ‘spontaneous and interactive’ and said that he expect people to make judicious use of it in the larger national interest. “Social media is spontaneous and interactive.Such a medium is both an opportunity and a challenge. We believe people will take full advantage of Social Media,expect them to make judicious use of it in the larger national and individual good,” tweeted Naidu.
Earlier on Saturday, Naidu had said that the criticism of his ministry’s decision to ban NDTV India for a day was “politically inspired”, “ill informed” and “belated”. The minister had said that since the criticism of, and the reactions to, the order came a day after it was made public, it was “clearly an afterthought, suggesting motivated design to create a controversy where none existed”.

My views :
1. Some times media turns into annoying,;
2. Many occasions speaks, against Nation Interests;
3. Causing insult, injury, not ruling party or PM, BUT TO THE NATION;
4. MEDIA IS VERY ARROGANT TO SOME GOOD PEOPLE ( NATION'S BEST ) FORGETTING THEIR STATUS;
5. MEDIA FREEDOM DOES NOT ALLOW TALK ANY THING AGAINST ANYBODY;
6. Here mentioned about Private news channels in all languages;
7. The orop death case was live telecastede by all private channls, and celebrating the event;
8. Extra stress on controversial Rahul, Kejariwal, other talketive congress men, Communists, etc., and unnecessary hipe on silly things through out the day and night, boring the viewers;
9. These channels should learn from Doordarshan;
10. Never watch private news channels, best to watch Doordarshan, extremely good.
